Our Commitment
As a steward of the Northwest Arkansas landscape, The Peel Compton Foundation makes it a priority to be welcoming to all. We are dedicated to ensuring that our spaces and programming create a sense of belonging and connection for people of all ages, gender, sexual orientation, color, and abilities. Since 1991, providing access to welcoming spaces and experiences for ALL visitors has been at the heart of everything we do.

Our History
Peel Compton Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Bentonville, Arkansas, with a mission to connect the community through nature, education, recreation, and preservation. We operate four vibrant public spaces—Peel Museum & Botanical Garden, Compton Gardens & Arboretum, Coler Mountain Bike Preserve, and Osage Park—that offer free, year-round access for people of all ages and abilities.
Our story began in 1991 with the restoration of the historic Peel Mansion, built in 1875. Originally saved from demolition by community leaders, this Victorian home and its surrounding gardens became our first project and are now known as Peel Museum & Botanical Garden, accredited as a Botanic Garden in 2021.
In 2005, we expanded with Compton Gardens & Arboretum, the former home of conservationist Dr. Neil Compton. Nestled just off the Bentonville Square, this peaceful space is now a state-recognized Level II Arboretum, home to native plants and towering Champion Trees.
In 2020, we welcomed Coler Mountain Bike Preserve—a 300-acre natural landscape and recreation destination featuring over 20 miles of trails, a greenway, and a campground. Once a family farm, Coler is now a cornerstone of Bentonville’s growing outdoor culture.
The following year, Osage Park officially opened to the public. This 70-acre urban park blends recreation with ecology, offering trails, pickleball courts, food trucks, and wetlands restoration. It’s also home to The Quiver, our unique archery range.
With over 800,000 visitors annually, these four properties serve as inclusive spaces where community and nature come together. Our work is supported by generous donors, event rentals, and program fees—and most importantly, by people who believe in preserving the places they love.
Together, we’re building a more connected, sustainable, and welcoming Northwest Arkansas—one trail, garden, and gathering space at a time.
