To be a kid at Osage Summer Camp! Last week our campers explored the wetlands, learned to fish, shot bows at the archery range, practiced yoga, dissected owl pellets, and ended the week with a water day and slip n' slide! We still have a few spots open for our July camp!

Killdeer don’t build nests like most birds. They lay their eggs right on the ground, often in gravel or rocks where the speckled eggs blend in perfectly. Both parents take turns keeping the eggs warm, and they’re incredibly protective. If danger gets too close, the adult on the nest will fake an injury by flopping to the ground and dragging a wing to look like easy prey. It’s all an act to draw attention away from the eggs. If that doesn’t work, the parent starts calling out to their partner to come help defend the nest. It’s a pretty incredible bit of teamwork, and we were lucky to catch it in action at Osage Park.
